I upgraded the site component that manages the downloads today and it now properly recognizes URLs and links. This means that you can now include links to external sites when you upload a file. 

The screeshots stuff is still not working but I think I am honing in on what the problem is. It's sort of difficult when I don't have direct access to the server so it may take a bit more time.
